The encumbrance of dealing with acne can affect an individual’s state of mind. Most of us have not been saved from a case of acne in our adolescence. We lived with the pimples and were forced to brave out the eventual scarring the reddish pustules left behind.
Bacteria are identified as the fundamental cause of pus-filled papules. Bacteria live on skin pores that are plugged with dirt and oil.
After the pimples disappear, scars often remain to remind us of those pustules. Some scars caused by papules grow lighter as time passes. Yet, some acne scars will not fade, and we are left with the feeling that we are somehow imperfect.
The four commonly recognized types of pitting left over from pimples are as follows. Ice pick acne scars are scars identifiable by the pits formed on the skin. Another type is called rolling scar; a broad, shallow depth is what characterizes rolling acne scars. Boxcar-type scarrings are usually found on the sides of the head or the cheeks; they have angular and well-defined edges, similar to scars caused by chickenpox. Keloidal and hypertrophic scarrings are raised tissues on the surface of the skin.
Clinical studies show that facial scarring can have heavy psychological effects on a person, for example low sense of self-worth, depression, and suicidal tendencies.
But there is no need to lose hope just yet. There are now numerous technological developments for the treatment of acne scars. Some of these treatment methods use a form of laser therapy. Other treatment methods and procedures require some form of skin abrasion. Creams and injections are also marketed for the treatment of facial scars. Inquire from your doctor about the best acne scar removal and/or treatment technology that will suit you.
